Description

A Water Wake is Like Addiction

A wake is a disturbance of the water resulting from something moving through the water at high speeds, causing turbulence and turmoil in the water. Addiction is defined as a chronic, relapsing, brain disease that is characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use, despite harmful consequences.* Addiction is like a wake, causing turbulence and turmoil.

What is a No Wake Zone?

A No Wake Zone means that boats must reduce to the slowest speed they can travel at while still maintaining the ability to steer and make forward progress, without causing turbulence or turmoil in the water.

In Recovery the No Wake Zone means taking one step at a time, slowing down, responding not reacting to situations and events happening in your life. In order to maintain a No Wake Zone you need to steer the boat slowly which means controlling any unhealthy emotions and thoughts that arise from a situation or event.

The No Wake Zone journal includes a one-page exercise to take unhealthy “thoughts and emotions” captive. Based on the scripture 2 Corinthians 10:5, this one-page exercise helps capture, recognize, challenge and replace unhealthy thoughts with healthy thoughts and emotions.
